The charming neighborhood is often a traveler’s first port of call, boasting an impressive blend of shops, restaurant and tourist attractions. Known locally as Gamla Stan, this popular place is an excellent choice for an afternoon of sightseeing and shopping or a laid-back evening enjoying the city’s beautiful views.

Cozy cafés and unique boutiques

Perfectly pedestrian-friendly, this is the ideal place to go for a nice stroll. Surrounded by unique architecture, squares and cobbled streets, go treasure hunting in the many independent boutiques offering quality handicrafts and beautiful souvenirs. After working up your appetite with a morning of shopping, sit down at one of the many cozy cafés to have lunch, a cup of coffee or a lovely cake or pastry. Most of the cafés have tables and chairs on the sidewalks, perfect for people watching and enjoying the fantastic atmosphere.

Visit a museum

The evocative Old Town is also a good place for sightseeing, with the Royal Palace located in the same district. This is one of the largest palaces Europe with over 600 rooms, including reception rooms and several interesting museums, among them an exhibit on royal costumes an armor. The palace grounds are worth the visit themselves, and while you are there make sure not to miss the parade of soldiers and the daily changing of the guard outside.

Exploring the beautiful Old Town is convenient from the Radisson Collection Hotel, Strand Stockholm, located only a 12-minute walk away, and within easy reach of other notable points of interest in the city. The comfortable rooms boast sleek soothing Scandinavian design and amenities such as free high-speed wireless Internet for all rooms.
